Packing is where most moving stress starts. Do it right, and moving day becomes much easier.
1. Start Early
Don’t wait until the last minute. Pack a little each day, starting with items you rarely use.
2. Declutter Before You Pack
There’s no point moving things you don’t need. Donate, sell, or throw away anything you won’t use in your new home.
3. Label Everything Clearly
Write the room and contents on each box. Add “FRAGILE” where needed. This saves time when unpacking.
4. Use a Color-Coding System
Assign a color to each room and mark boxes accordingly. It helps movers place everything correctly right away.
5. Pack an Essentials Box
Keep a separate box for your first day. Include clothes, toiletries, chargers, snacks, and important items.
6. Protect Fragile Items Properly
Use bubble wrap, towels, or clothing to cushion breakables. Fill empty spaces in boxes to prevent shifting.
7. Don’t Overpack Boxes
Heavy boxes are harder to carry and more likely to break. Keep them manageable.
8. Keep Important Items With You
Documents, jewelry, and valuables should not go in moving boxes. Keep them with you at all times.
Bottom line
Smart packing is about organization and planning. The more effort you put in before moving day, the smoother everything will go.
